The key difference from previous technologies is that the behavior of AI, although based on human-designed structures, emerges unpredictably, surprising even the developers. This phenomenon leads to rapid and radical changes that are difficult to regulate from the top (top-down) alone. A complementary bottom-up approach, with sensitivity to social and labor impacts, is crucial. The world of work, for example, could be transformed dramatically, with people who master AI overtaking those who do not. The goal should be the common good, supporting a balanced society to prevent disparities from widening. Schools, central places for learning, need to prepare for these challenges, going beyond just transferring information.

In questo tavolo rotondo organizzato da CERSTE in Bruxelles, il professor Luca Mari esplora la trasformazione culturale e cognitiva portata dall’intelligenza artificiale generativa, sottolineando come questa rivoluzione non sia solo tecnica ma anche sociale. La differenza chiave rispetto alle tecnologie precedenti è che il comportamento delle AI, sebbene basato su strutture progettate dall’uomo, emerge in modo imprevedibile, sorprendendo persino gli sviluppatori. Questo fenomeno porta a cambiamenti rapidi e radicali, difficili da regolare soltanto dall’alto (top-down). È cruciale un approccio complementare dal basso (bottom-up), con una sensibilità verso gli impatti sociali e lavorativi. Il mondo del lavoro, ad esempio, potrebbe essere trasformato drasticamente, con persone che padroneggiano l’AI superando chi non lo fa. L’obiettivo dovrebbe essere il bene comune, supportando una società equilibrata per evitare che le disparità si amplifichino. Le scuole, luoghi centrali per l’apprendimento, devono prepararsi a queste sfide, andando oltre il semplice trasferimento di informazioni.
